Is Roku or Firestick better for screen mirroring a Mac computer?

I have a firestick, and I found an app that works for Screen Mirroring, but I have to pay a monthly subscription. I have an allergic reaction to monthly subscriptions! I'd be happy to buy an app for a reasonable price, but endless ongoing subscriptions are abhorrent to me.

I did pay $4.99 for a screen mirroring app in Firestick called "Mirroring Receiver". It worked once perfectly. Screen mirrored, audio mirrored, then, any time since then I try to mirror, the screen goes black, no screen mirroring, but the audio is coming through my TV. What happened to the screen? Weird.

So I am wondering if a Roku device is just naturally more equipped to handle Apple devices? or another stick?

Thanks

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 14.2

Why would you use an app when you can just connect your TV directly to your Mac? FireTV mirroring is known to be buggy and prone to dropping connections. Regarding Roku, not all models are Airplay compatibile, check the specs closely.

Wth a 15" MBAir you would need the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter - Apple Support and an HDMI cable.

Yes, thanks for the adapter tip, I do have an HDMI cable, and used to connect through that with a different computer, but have not connected since I have the new ports. But also was just happy not to fuss with the wires, as the way my house is set up, I couldn't leave it set up permanently, so its a bit of a hassle. Thanks for all the suggestions.
