CarPlay not working after iOS 17.6.1 Update

After the update to iOS 17.6.1, CarPlay stopped working in my VW Jetta. I've done ALL the things.

-disconnect the CarPlay app, reconnect

-disconnect the Bluetooth, reconnect

-change the cables

-reset the app in the car settings

-reset the car factory settings

-reset the iPhone

-hard reset of the VW infotainment/radio

im about ready to reset the iPhone by buying a phone that’s not an Apple iOS. This is the 2nd time this has happened in the last few years. These small computers cost too much for these bugs.

Here’s what I had to do to make things work again on my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek: under CarPlay settings on my phone, forget vehicle. Next, I detached my phone from its cable, and deactivated Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth next, I shut my phone down completely. Finally I started l up the car and the phone while not yet connected together. As my phone finished booting up, I plugged it back in to the cable, and the rest seem to fall into place. It is possible that this requires a little bit of time, I was able to do this while stopping for gas for example. I say that to say: if you try this well, say sitting still in your car over a minute and a half or two minutes, and it doesn’t work, then it may indicate that you have to let it sit maybe about 10 minutes or so in this process. Best of luck!

So after a month of playing with settings, updates etc.

I tried all of the recommended steps, none of them worked I finally have a solution to my car play.

(Nissan xtrail)

rather than turning the infotainment system into a reset, I went into the main menu and did a factory reset that way. Now it is working, connecting no issue not intermittent and sound is back.

I had got it connecting intermittently with maps but no audio, now everything is working.

so recommend trying factory reset if you haven’t!

My 2020 RAV4 has the same issue. Happens all the time before the next big release. They have you jump through hoops and once the new release comes it is fixed. Last year the wireless devices got it to work. Good thing Car Play doesn’t run the whole car. Yet. This the third year in a row that this has happened. Last year it was a patch to fix car play that broke mine. I had to pull out my old garmin so I had navigation for a trip. You would think they read these, nope.

Factory reset of the auto's audio system also fixed my Honda Civic symptoms

Wish the moderators had a way of bubbling "likely fixes" up to the top of discussions, as this kind of fix has been mentioned many times in these threads, but lost in a tome of dialog.

iPhone reset seems unnecessary btw

My guess is some auto audio systems have some issue with keeping track of what phones are connected to them. Wiping their slate clean fixes it.

And they all lived happily ever after…

FIXED… after resetting the Honda Accord back to it's factory setting, and re-connecting.

Before this 2 of the 5 iPhones linked to the car were deletable from the car's list, but the other 3 would go into a loop, and end up un-deleted. Confounding… maybe Honda Accord, and others, have some indexing issue that was exacerbated by the 17.6.1 release… who knows… question is can  and Honda collaborate to debug this and prevent similar issues.

I can't believe how much we missed  CarPlay !

Did you get this fixed....we were on a trip recently Apple Carplay worked on older Apple SE and Newer 2020 SE and then on the way home September 19 seemed to stop working...would freeze the screen on the newer one and would even connect to the older one....we went thinking it was the Rental Car we went away today and it happened on our personal car.... We had changed the USB cord, Cars...checked all connections.... so I updated to IOS 18 today and the newer SE works... the older one just give a black blank screen and Apple no longer supports that series....

Had nothing to do with the infocenter's computer but I suspect the good folks at APPLE did some type of update to obsolete older phones to CarPlay.
