It still has a long journey to go, It was discontinued in March 2024, but that doesn’t mean it won’t get updates, It’ll get updates for years, and when it’s no longer compatible with newer versions of macOS, then you’ll still get security updates.

The physical lifespan of an M1 MacBook Air, depending on your usage, could be an extremely long time if you eventually want to replace the battery.


The practical lifespan is when the machine will no longer perform efficiently for your usage. At some point you will not be able to run the latest and greatest macOS and Apple may even call it obsolete but you could still continue to use it if it performs in a way that is suitable for you.


So, what is the lifespan? It is the point where you deem it no longer a useful tool.
