Why does the battery life of my iPad keep changing?

The battery life of my iPad is tested 77% Last January, I was going to change the battery. But I was held off by other things. Surprisingly and unexpectedly, the battery life of my iPad is tested 88% this August. Have you changed your algorithm of battery life testing? Why is this happening? I am denied to change the battery now because the battery life is above 80%. But obviously it's not. It's draining too fast. I need a fair explanation.

Apple has continued to tweak their battery charging algorhythms over a number of iterations of their operating systems. So yes, the test may well have changed what it reports.

As to the battery draining, Apple has some tips here:

Charge and maintain your iPad battery - Apple Support

Perhaps that will help. And just so you know, you're not communicating with Apple when you post in the Community. We're all just fellow users, helping out as we have time and knowledge to share.

How are you testing your iPad's battery health? If this has been established remotely by Apple Support - or as tested by an Apple Technician - this will have been using Apple-proprietary software to which only Apple have access.

Prior to release of the 2024 models of iPad Pro M4 and iPad Air M2, the native Battery Health feature has only been available on iPhone - whereas now availability of this feature has been expanded to include these two models of iPad.

As such, you have presumably been (a) using either a third-party Windows PC or Mac utility App to estimate the Battery Health of your iPad, or (b) have been interpreting the iPad's own Analytics log data which does not of itself provide a definitive analysis of the iPad's battery health.

Perhaps you can provide some insight into to your iPad model, your typical usage, and the battery life/endurance that you are experiencing. With more information, contributors will have a better understanding of the problem that you may have.

While usage will obviously vary between users, you might reasonably anticipate anything between 8-15% of battery utilisation per hour - high screen brightness and/or CPU intensive Apps making greater demands upon battery life than when used for non-intensive tasks, or with reduced screen brightness.

Also, as an average, you might expect to observe ~10% battery utilisation per day with the iPad completely idle in its sleeping state.
