I am unable to update my MacBook Pro from Big Sur to Monterey

For 2014 MacBook Pros, Big Sur is the end of the line. You cannot upgrade to Monterey or later.

There are some applications that can help you extend the useful life of that machine. Big Sur is recent enough to run current versions of

• The Firefox Web browser
• The LibreOffice office suite
• The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)
• The commercial Affinity V2 applications (Photo, Designer, Publisher)

This may help to make up for being unable to run the current version of Safari, and being unable to run the current versions of software from the likes of Microsoft and Adobe.

And yes, it's a given that with all computers, all tablets, and all smartphones – you can only upgrade so far, and then the ability to upgrade (without buying new hardware) stops.

None of the 2014 MacBook Pros are on the list.

Just found out, The line of 2014 MacBook pro’s only goes up to macOS Big Sur 11, You won’t be able to update to Monterey 12, or later, You might need to buy a newer mac to update further, Your Mac stops updating due to old hardware, and it cannot handle any more updates.
