I have a Macbook pro mid 2014 with Big Sur and tried to update it to Monterey and find I cannot do it. Is there a way because I
just installed a 1TB hard drive. Is Mac like windows that keeps up upgrading and then at a point stops. If that is the case I might as well buy a much cheaper option.

Just found out, The line of 2014 MacBook pro’s only goes up to macOS Big Sur 11, You won’t be able to update to Monterey 12, or later, You might need to buy a newer mac to update further, Your Mac stops updating due to old hardware, and it cannot handle any more updates.
