Why is my Apple Watch not tracking steps accurately?

How do I get my Apple Watch to accurately track steps when using a treadmill desk and resting wrists on desk?

I’ve been putting my phone in my pocket just in case but still not working. I don’t want to select an indoor workout option as I’m walking slowly for 7 hours while I work.

The Apple Watch uses the accelerometer and gyroscope to track movement. If you have your wrists on a desk, the watch isn't moving and so really can't track your steps. An option would be to try your Apple Watch on your ankle. The Watch has to move or it can't track.

Similarly, having your iPhone in your pocket may not work, or work well, since again it's not really moving, at least not much, so if it counts steps at all, the count probably won't be accurate.

Regards.
