duplicate subscription for Paramount +

I’ve been being charged for over a year for a duplicate Paramount+ app, one on my phone, one through Apple TV. Both are purchased with my iTunes ID and password, how is this possible? Apple customer service would only cancel one and offer a two month refund. My question is how is this my mistake? Thanks

And that's the important bit.

It means you subscribed through the stand alone app and through the Apple TV channels. These are 2 different subscription types. Its not the same subscription charged twice.

Yes, it is a bit confusing.

The Channel subscription can "technically" only be used inside the Apple TV app, while the stand alone app subscription, can be used in the Paramount+ app on any device including smart tvs, games consoles, streaming devices, smart phones, tablets and the paramount+ website.

Cancel the one you don't want to use to stop getting charged twice.

If you subscribed in the Paramount+ app on an Apple device, then your subscription is valid for the Paramount+ app on Apple devices. It is not valid for the in-app Channels of the same name inside the Apple TV app. Those are only valid with a subscription started in the Apple TV app channel. These are different types of subscriptions with different terms and conditions, different perks and limitations, and are not exchangeable as such. If you were to also subscribe with Paramount+ directly, then you could have three types of subscriptions simultaneously. Or subscribe through Amazon Prime Video, for a fourth type.

It may get a bit confusing on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV box, where external “connected” apps and in-app channels are mixed in one interface (“Explore Channels & Apps”), with very little to set them apart. Even more so when the same content provider name is used for both a channel and an app.

The various types of subscriptions to one service can exist simultaneously, and you could be double-billed. Cancel the one you prefer less.

The only way that could conceivably happen is if you, yourself actually subscribed twice to a Paramount in some way. Hard to imagine the system somehow duplicated the subscriptions otherwise since its set up to prevent this exact thing by not allowing a secondary subscription to happen in the same way as an existing one on the same Apple ID.

Since subscriptions through the App Store cannot be duplicated, it means you either subscribed once through the App Store for the stand alone app, and once through either Paramount's website or the Apple TV app's Paramount+ channel or a combination of these 3 options. In which case you generated 2 different subscriptions through 2 different places.

I’ve talked to Paramount both subscriptions were generated through my iTunes account. Then they sent me to Apple who said one was through Apple TV, the other the app, both under the same Apple ID. I would think the system would recognize the same Apple ID is being used for the same subscription, but here we are. Only difference is one says Apple TV channel in the subscription description.
