AppleTV Playing Music in Earbuds

Another night in bed,

  • AppleTV is off
  • earbuds still in ears
  • press earbud and random music plays
  • start searching the house, turning on and off every apple product in sight (because this is how I unwind for bed these days!)
  • finally turn my apple TV back on, exit the show i was previously watching, go to music, library, and hit play again
  • to discover that even though my Apple TV is OFF (no white light) and i am reverted back to my Samsung screensaver- Apple music is insidiously playing music through my earbuds

Naturally, i try to delete Apple Music (like i have had to do on every other apple device i own), however there is NO OPTION TO DELETE Apple Music from the Apple TV ….

any other suggestions? someone PLEASE help. I literally just bought this apple tv and am back to square one with the Apple Music autoplay debacle we’re all finding ways to cope with. I thought i was past random music playing in my ears while I’m drifting off to sleep. Thanks in advance!

If the status light on the Apple TV box is off, then the music in your earbuds is not originating there. The music will be from somewhere else. The Apple TV box doesn’t stream anything when in sleep mode. The Music app is integral part of tvOS, and can’t be deleted.

Are these Apple AirPods? Or some other brand?

Without an overview of all streaming equipment in your house, none here can help pinpoint the music streamer. Although a mobile device would be my first suspect. The automatic connecting of AirPods would attempt to connect to a nearby Apple device with the same Apple ID. Look in Control Center’s Now Playing panel, which can be active when the Music app is not, for accessing audio sources. If it shows a Play button, then it is currently paused. If it shows a Pause button, then it is currently playing.
