Can I safely open an older FCP project in a newer version of FCP without losing files? And, how can I find what older version of FCP my older completed project was created in.

I'm new to FCP. I bought a new MacBook Pro and updated my FCP to 10.8.1. I want to open an older completed project that's stored on an external drive. But when I try to open the older project, I get a message saying that to open it, the file will have to be updated to the current 10.8.1 version of FCP.

I have two questions really: Can I safely open, and update, the older completed project to 10.8.1 without losing any content or files in the older project? Also, is there a way to find out what version of FCP the older project was created in? I didn't save the older version of FCP, and I don't remember what version it was.

Thanks

It is possible to find out the library version.

Quit out of FCP. Right-click on the library and choose Show Package Contents. There should be a file named CurrentVersion.plist. Select it and tap the spacebar to preview it. This library was created in 10.6.5.

*** Be *VERY* careful when going into the package. Inadvertent changes to files in there can break the library. ***
