Missing Remote Media error in Final Cut Pro 10.6.8

Making small video with photos. I keep getting this message when I drag photos to the Timeline "Missing Remote Media". Why, all the photos are in my Photo File and also in My Album on FCP. I'm using FCP 10.6.8. What causes my photos to keep disappearing?

This was a bug in several of last year's versions of FCP.

The only cure is to update.

As a workaround you can drag copies of the photos you need to the desktop and import them from there.
