how to avoid typing PW after time elapsed

last month had to replace my MAC Pro got a MACbook air-- - there are a few things i don't like, but may be because I don't know how to find the answers -- 1) after some time-- but it isn't a long time ! the computer asks for PW again- by the way, the fingerprint worked for a while- a few weeks - and now doesn't seem to work - I have entered again a new fingerprint - still won't work--- and i am tired of putting inPW all the time- I am the only person using the computer - how can I remove or at least lengthen the duration of time it is idle?

Here’s what you can try for both problems:

To increase or remove the time requirement for when you will be asked for your user password:

  1. Open System Settings
  2. Go to Lock Screen.
  3. Under "Require Password after sleep or screen saver begins", you can adjust how quickly the Mac asks for your password. Set this to something like 1 hour or "Never" if you prefer longer intervals.
  4. You can also adjust Display Sleep by going to Displays > Advanced and increasing the time before the display goes to sleep.

Fixing Touch ID:

  • First make sure your Mac is updated to the latest version of macOS.
  • Try deleting your existing fingerprints (again) under System Settings > Touch ID & Password and re-adding them again.
  • When adding, make sure to cover different angles of your finger for better recognition.

If the issue persists, it might be hardware-related. Should this be the case, the next step would be to contact Apple Support directly for further assistance with this issue. To do so, simply select the "Support" link on the lower left-hand side of this forum's web page.
