iPhone Device Blacklisted

My device has been blacklisted/reported stolen. The crazy thing is is that I am the sole owner of this device. I purchased it new directly from Apple and have proof of purchase. I have not filed a claim or reported it stolen myself. My service provider is AT&T and they keep suspending my service because of the blacklist status. Their system shows that Verizon is who has reported my device. I have never been a Verizon customer. No one seems to know how to get me off the blacklist. How do I get off the blacklist?

I've talked to Verizon a couple times. Since I have never been a customer with them and my IMEI has never been in their system they can not/will not help.

The first people you get on the phone are customer service reps whose job is to get you off the phone as quickly as possible, hopefully with a solution that means you won't call back. "We can't help you" fills that criteria very nicely in this case. They have quotas on the number of calls they take per shift.

What that means is that you have to be very determined. Polite but determined. Keep asking to have the call escalated to someone who can help. It used to be that there was a special department who dealt with things like fraud and the stolen phone list. I don't know if that's still true.
