Apple Photos - Editing Metadata

I have photography as hobby for many years now, in this way thousands of photos store in many external HDD. I'll give an idea about my workflow for a better understanding of what I am seeking.

So, take a picture, these days each file has originally about 60Mb, and rename each photo with a unique name identifier, based on "date + location + event + type + sequential number" to avoid name duplicity and to make it easy to figure out what the photo is about without opening the file.

Then I process each original file using a Raw editor, and I save the original raw photo in a Storage place "A", a JPG copy in excellent quality ( medium size, about 12Mb) for printing in a Storage "B" and finally a second JPG copy in standard quality (size away smaller, about 1,750MB) for social media and to show off to friends and family, in a Storage "C"which is is my MacBook Pro.

The issue here is not new, in fact is pretty old, I saw so many posts in here answered mainly by a user called léonie and all over the web, but so far I could see a effective solution. Like many others, I just want to be able to batch edit my photos metadata, more specifically the field "Title" outside of Apple Photos app, because every time when I give a maintenance clean up to my mac my photos loose the attribution given to "Title" in Metadata.

I do have a Script that works very well in Photo to copy the "filename" into the field "Title" within the metadata, but again it only works there. Unfortunately, if I open Finder and try to send/share the photo file with someone else, for example my son, it won't carry on the "Title" information with it. It would be amazing if I could have a Script like that one from Photos app running into Finder and permanently writing down the filename into "Title"field.

I got a few app to edit metadata (some free some paid) none of them were able to ready/locate the "Title" field edited in Apple Photos app. I gave a gibberish name on purpose to make easier to locate the field "Title", but nothing, I also made a few screenshot to illustrate a little better. I just don't figure out why Apple does not let the user to sort photos by filename instead of "Title".

So, finally, does anyone know a way to permanently batch copy the filename (better if can be copied with extension as well) into "Title" field within metadata of a photo without using Apple Photos app, or perhaps does any one know an app capable of doing that?

Tks a million in advance.

You can batch copy the file name with or without extension into the Title field while in the Photos library with either of these two user contributed AppleScripts:

Script: Batch Changing the Titles to the Filenames with Extension

Script: Changing the Title to the Filename without Extension

Or if you want a bit more customization you can use these scripts:

Batch Change Title to Capture Date-Description-Padded Sequential Numbers

Batch Change Title to Text w/Padded Sequential No.

These and other scripts can be found in this user tip: Thematic Index to Photos for Mac related User Tips
