Apple Watch 9 came with no keyboard in texting fresh out the box

I just got my Apple Watch 9 along with my new iPhone 15 pro max. Left the store with the employee telling me to set the watch up at home. Go to set up the watch.. okay.. go to text.. no keyboard. So I google it and the only answer I can find is swipe up and a keyboard will appear.. nope, nothing. It’s completely up to date. I’ve tried everything from restarting the phone and watch, repairing them together, you name it.. still no keyboard. As this was a key factor in deciding to upgrade my watch my pretty disappointed. I’ve looked all over the web and can’t find anything. Someone please help??? Pretty please?
