Image capture : combining PDFs

I use a Canon MG3650S printer/scanner. To scan, I'm using 'Image Capture which, I now realise, is an Apple program, rather than Canon, hence I am posting here. There is an option to 'combine into a single document', which works well. But for the fact that this is a constantly growing PDF ! When I start a new scan, on a new day, the latest scan is just the next page in a PDF that I combined previously. Simply, I want to clear the memory/stack, and start a fresh combination but can't intuitively find a reset button. Canon you help please ?

Apple's Preview can help you combine a new PDF scan with an older PDF generated from a prior scanning session. Scanning software (e.g. Image Capture, Preview) intends the combination to be all pages in the current session, not multiple PDFs.

In the Finder, you can also select the previous PDF, then the new PDF (using the ⌘-key), and the right-click on the first PDF selection. From the Finder Contextual menu, choose Quick Actions > Create PDF. This will combine them in the order they were selected without needing to use Preview. This will create a new PDF bearing the name of the first selected PDF with a version number appended to the PDF name. You then rename it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply but what I want to know is how to clear the 'memory' in Image Capture. I've scanned things which remain in the combined PDF and anything new just keeps adding. I may well choose in future to prefer Preview to combine PDFs but I would really like to clear this queue so that there is no record of what I've scanned remaining in Image Capture.

"Wouldn't quitting Image Capture between scanning activities disrupt that retention?" That would be great but no, quitting and reopening, even closing and rebooting the computer, leaves the list exactly as before when one chooses PDF as the type of scan and clicks "combine into one document". Changing to jpg, doing a scna, then changing back, and other such changes, doesn't make any difference, which is why I'm asking for help.
