Is there a way to return an Apple product that was purchased in store, via the mail? Everything I can easily see on the website suggests that only web purchases can be returned this way (as the link typically takes you to your online orders). I know that both online and in-person purchases can be returned at the Apple Store itself, but can both be returned via mail return?

Assuming that the product was purchased from an Apple Store, you should be able to return it by mail; at least that appears to be the policy in the US. Other countries may differ. Here are the policies and procedure for the US:

Where are you seeing that, or by whom are you being told that? It's not that I disbelieve you, but I'd like to know from where you are getting that information. I can't find anything that says that, though Apple often has internal policies that they don't express in print.
