Ipad Pro Black Screen of Death

Similar to many others my iPad started to have the black screen of death. It started a couple months ago but just occasionally. Then it became more frequent to the point where early this week I could not get out of it with a forced restart etc. I took it to an Apple store and after running diagnostics they concluded it had to be the screen as no other problems were noted. So my iPad Pro M1 11" is basically dead. The only option is to either buy a new iPad or use the replacement service at a cost of around $800 CDN. My concern is that the iPad was never abused or dropped. It seems ridiculous that after only 3 years of use (battery health is well over 90% based on the diagnostics) that it has to be replaced. I am wondering if there is actually a manufacturing problem here and/or the screen used just doesn't last for some reason. Just venting I guess but wonder how many other people similar things have happened to? I completed the post visit Apple Service service questionnaire and voiced my concerns and also stated I was available for follow up questions via phone. I suspect I will never hear from them.

Any electronic device, even from Apple, can suffer an unexpected hardware failure.

For practical purposes, in lieu of repairing and returning your own iPad, Apple usually exchange a defective iPad for a renewed/refurbished iPad of the same model and specification. The cost of the exchange is the same as would otherwise be charged for repair. Unless you have benefit of an active AppleCare plan, an out-of-warranty repair while expensive will be somewhat less than the cost of a replacement iPad. With an AppleCare+ plan, the cost is reduced to a small excess/deductible fee.

As for out-of-warranty repair costs, Apple offers a fixed-price price repair. You can verify eligibility and cost for your region/country here:

agreed any device can have unexpected hardware failure. My point which I likely did not express very well is that there are a lot of people and videos discussing the black screen of death suddenly occurring. In most of those sources the last solution is typically "your screen is likely shoot so take it to Apple for repair". My point is that it seems like these screens may have an issue with durability and should last longer than 3 years on a device that has been babied and never abused. I suspect that there is a quality control issue and Apple should be doing more then just giving me a replacement which some have noted ends up with the same problem. Not a good solution in my opinion, for what it is worth.
