How to optimize battery life on my Apple Watch

My Watch series 8 has the Maximum Capacity down to 85% and it seems like it is getting low battery levels quicker than it used to. Especially as I like to exercise with it even though the music is downloaded to the watch not streaming.

I am probably replacing it this year with a Series 10 but I read about lots of users keeping their AW for several years. I am considering trying every other year to replace it. Any thoughts?

Apple Watch Series 4.

84% battery health

I charge it every night while I sleep.

Expect in very rare situations (maybe less than 5), I NEVER let the battery drain to nothing, and just as rare do I let it get below 10%

Because I know it is 6 years old, if I suspect the battery may be low, or I’ll be awhile till I get home, I’ll put the Apple Watch in Low Power mode to conserve the battery.

Letting your battery drain to very low levels is the fastest way to destroy a Li-Ion battery.

My two cents: Your Apple Watch Series 8 is still fairly new and will be supported for more years to come, an Apple Watch’s lifespan is approximately 3-5 years. Many Apple users like to follow an every other year upgrade cycle, which you can follow along to. Though we are not here to make decisions for you, whatever you decide is perfectly fine.

Not everyone is going to have the same experience because not everyone is using their watch the same way. And, even within one generation of watches, there are different models with different screen sizes.

My battery health is about the same as BobHarris's, but I have a 7 which has a larger display (and I have the larger version). I don't know if Bob's is cellular capable, but mine is, and I often use that capability. The 7 also has the option for the Always On Display, which I use. So, it makes sense that I wouldn't get as many years out of the battery as Bob.

I have an Apple Watch SE but am planning to upgrade to the new Ultra 3 after many years of use. As stated, your Apple Watch ages differently for each person, I realized I probably use the Watches more than the average user, so I decided to upgrade higher to a model that suits me more. Whatever you decide, is perfectly fine!
