Why is JPEG quality superior to HEIF on iPad Air?

Hello! Is it normal on the ipad air 6 m2 that when you take photos using burst mode, the quality is good (JPEG)? But when it's just a single shot, the photo is a bit dark (HEIF)

The image format (HEIF or JPEG) should not make any difference to the exposure time.

But when you take a Burst shot, the Camera will be set for action photos and use a very short exposure time for "rapid fire" and to avoid motion blur. And, as far as I can tell, it will also avoid the HDR fusion, while single shot photos may be fused from several photos with different exposure time. The HDR photos are typically a bit darker with higher contrast and more saturated colours.

Or are you taking the single shots in Portrait Mode? This would explain the HEIC format. If the photos have been taken in Portrait Mode you can change the exposure manually after taking the shot, using the Portrait Lighting effects. Edit portraits on iPad - Apple Support (MT)
