MacBook Air goes black screen on/off

I have a 13” MacBook Air with M1 Apple Chip running 14..1.1 that the screen keeps going black. When I shut the screen and wait a few minutes and re-open if often works. Sometimes it takes several few minutes to crash, sometimes it is a few seconds. It is not "crashed" just the screen is black (I can see the "black" glow- so I know it is on still.) Battery is full, screen is on but showing black. Happens plugged in or not.  I have seen posts with Intel processor, but is there feedback w/ the Apple chips?

Hi Dan Corson

Re: "MacBook Air goes black screen on/off"

Seems you are using quite an early version of MacOS Sonoma; updating to the latest 14.6.1 version, if possible, may be beneficial: Eg: What's new in the updates for macOS Sonoma - Apple Support (Wise to back up data first)

or

Wondering if this Apple Support article may be helpful: If your Mac starts up to a blank screen - Apple Support

Trouble-shooting: Things you might want to check if you can use your Mac:

Check your Mac enough storage space (eg: at least 50 Gb free) in which to operate smoothly.

Check whether you have installed third-party (non-Apple) apps that may cause difficulties:

Eg: ✽ Unnecessary apps like virus-checkers, ad-blockers, cleaners, and the like (even VPN can cause issues):

try turning them off, or uninstall using uninstallers from their developers.

✽ Any necessary third-party apps should be checked for updates regularly; keep compatible with macOS.

Check the settings for ✽ how long the Mac is on before it "sleeps" if idle (pref longer time than below)

✽ how long the Mac is idle before the screen-saver starts (pref shorter time than above)

Re: "is there feedback w/ the Apple chips?"

As Apple users, like yourself, we do not get to see what feedback Apple receives on an issue;

so, unless anyone has noticed posts to the community and replies, an answer may not be possible.

All the best :-)
