iPhoto library conversion

I have three Macs, running from 11.7.10 Big Sur to 14.6.1 Sonoma. I have an old Mac Pro running snow Leopard with an iPhoto library containing 24,000 photos. I've tried installing the iPhoto updater on the Big Sur MacBook Air, but it says it's not compatible with the OS. I've tried exporting pics as jpg to an ssd( formatted macOS journaled) then importing them , but it's saying they can;t beoopened. Third party software is an option if anyone can tell me what. Haven't had any luck so far.

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 14.6

Yer_Man said that ..."migrating an iPhoto Library is as basic as opening it with Photos." But I think that this was true through OS 12, Monterey, but is no longer so easy. Of course, most of us haven't dealt with iPhoto Libraries in quite some time.

I think the way to deal with iPhoto Libraries in Sonoma is to use the trusted 3rd party app PowerPhotos ($30). Most of us use PowerPhotos when we deal with multiple Photos Libraries, and it will also import iPhoto Libraries into Photos. It has the menu item "Convert iPhoto / Aperture Libraries..." so that sounds pretty promising!

Thanks to both of you for your answers. Yer Man is correct if you are migrating photos from one system to another, but this doesn't seem to work when you are skipping several versions at a time. Especially going up to Sonoma.

Richard, I think you have given me the answer my issue with your recommendation of Power Photos. Thanks for the helpful information. I truly appreciate the answers.

best,
