How do I stop repeated McAfee alerts on my MacBook Pro?

I had a subscription through McAfee for a year and unsubscribed. I deleted all software and I believe I went through the hassle of completely deleting my account. I am still getting pop ups on my computer, not through a browser. “McAfee total protection”…” a new version of the product is available” I hit the not now option or close and it still comes back every so often. I hate the pop ups and just want to get rid of it and not have to instal another software. I deleted it maybe half a year ago, and I have updated to newest system on my MacBook in settings.

Apparently you didn't get all of the components of McAfee uninstalled. Did you run their uninstaller, or did you just drag the app to the Trash? If the latter, run the uninstaller if it's still present. If not, you can try going to terminal and using the following command:

For McAfee v. 4.8:
sudo /Library/McAfee/cma/uninstall.sh

For McAfee v. 5.x:
sudo /Library/McAfee/cma/scripts/uninstall.sh

to get rid of it all, but there's no guarantee that will work with some components manually removed, and those commands may not be current (they're the most recent I could find). If that still doesn't work, you may need to contact McAfee support for further assistance, though one last thing to try would be to see if you can get to your hard drive's Library/Startup Items folder and if so delete anything related to McAfee you find there.

Hope this helps. Regards.
