updating software on old phone
when i go to settings, general, then software updates: there is no option to update my phone further. It stops at iOS12.5.7.
How do i get to update it further mannually?

If it was an iPhone that was eligible for updates, but had been kept from automatically updating, it would be offering you the option to update.
Since it isn't, it is an iPhone 5s, 6, or 6 Plus. No updates are, or will be, available. If you need to run modern apps, it is time to replace that outdated iPhone.

That would indicate you have an iPhone 6, 6 plus, or 5S.
Those devices can not run anything later than ios 12.
You can't. An unit running 12.5.7 isn't capable of 13 or above.

How do i get to update it further mannually?
You will need a newer phone.
An iPhone 7 will run iOS 15
An iPhone 8 and X will run iOS 16
An iPhone XR and higher will run iOS 17 and iOS 18
