Trade-In in Store when pre-ordering

If I pre-order a new iPhone and choose in store pick-up and trade-in will the difference be refunded to me or given to me on a gift card?

How does iPhone Trade in work? I have pre ordered the iPhone 16 Pro online and decided to trade in my 15 Pro Max. My new iPhone is booked in for collection at store however Apple are sending a trade in box for my old phone to my billing address. Can I just trade the phone on collection day for them to check the phone and refund me the difference or do I actually have to send it off in the post? Exchange engraved iPad bought with trade in. I traded in my iPad for the new base model ($180 trade value). I had the new one engraved. When I get to the store well they be able exchange it for the iPad Air? I’m within the 14 days. Or well they process it as a return. Returning my 180 by gift card, and the balance to my CC? I can’t believe I made such a mistake.

Typically with a trade-in Apple will credit back your original purchase method.
