iPhone contacts: details show last contact viewed not the actual contact selected

Iphone 11 , iOS 17.6.1

Contacts stored in icloud

• if I select contact called, for example, A Brown I see the details for A Brown
• if I then select a contact called J Black I see the contact details for A Brown
• if I then select a contact called A Red I see the details for A Red
• if I then select a contact called J Black I see the details for A Red.

this only seems to happen on one contact, in my example the record for J Black.

Have turned phone on and off a few times but no changes.

Now having selected J Black and seen info for A Red, the option to delete the record deletes A Red. This was in attempt to delete J Black record and reenter as new record.

Have turned on and off the phone, waited and tried again its the same issue

To confuse me even further earlier it was not the J Black record that was 'incorrectly linked' to last viewed card but that of A Green.
