Does Apple 4K (3rd Gen) TV support 9.1 Dolby Atmos?

I have been searching all over the internet but didn't get any confirmed answer.

Does Apple 4K (3rd Gen) TV support 9.1 Dolby Atmos?

If 3rd Gen is not supporting, will 4th Gen support?

I have a Marantz 9.1 receiver, Martin Logan sound system.

Please help me with this.

I appreciate your help!

Dolby Atmos doesn’t mark discrete speakers, so yes, your receiver will map the complete soundstage over all available speakers, with the precision that follows from your receiver-speaker calibration.

7.1.2 or 5.1.4, or higher, is all supported.

If 3rd Gen is not supporting, will 4th Gen support?

No details are publicly known at this time for a next generation model.

The better question might be to ask if/when Apple will allow the Apple TV 4K to bitstream audio directly to a receiver for decoding. I've asked this question and I know many have asked for it as a Feature Request. Apple has, for some reason, decided to have tvOS convert all the soundtracks to multichannel linear PCM. There is no sound quality loss converting from TrueHD/ATMOS or DTSHD-MA over to PCM, however, things like the LFE level balance, spacial audio information from ATMOS, and other factors are not always translated.

The end effect is a less theatrical experience. This is a shame because otherwise, the ATV 4K does a fantastic job with its implementation of Dolby Vision and proper frame rate matching to the original source.

Please Apple, implement a simple Bitstream option for those who would like to get the full experience with their high end theater receivers! This should be an easy thing to implement. It has been a basic feature with other hardware for 10+ years and it is usually flawless. In fact, it reduces the processing overhead during playback and the HDMI bandwidth compared to multichannel LPCM.

I cannot see why Apple refuses to offer this option. If they did, the Apple TV 4k might be the top choice among home theater enthusiasts instead of other clunkier products like the Nvidia Shield.

Yes, this is basically the same thing I posted back in April, but that thread was locked due to inactivity. Keep this alive and please do a Feature Request to Apple here:

Quick question on the same topic.

When I connected the new Apple TV 4K 3rd gen. It supports Dolby Atmos, I can see Netflix and other streaming apps showing the Atmos icon, however, my Marantz receiver app shows only 5.1 was working, remaining 4 were just off. check below screenshot:

When I connected back my Fire cube 2nd Gen, again it showed all 9.1 speakers were on, check below:

Do I have to any other setting, or any other configuration to work 4 speakers?

Thanks in advance guys.
