Search dialog claims "No recent Searches" in iTunes for Windows

I was trying to find a song on iTunes and I searched for it, but when I went to search for it again, just seconds afterwards, when clicking on the search dialog window, it reads: "No recent Searches" despite the fact that I had just searched for a song (and found it). Usually the terms used recently would appear as soon as I clicked the box, but no longer.

I restarted iTunes and the behavior remains. I have never had this issue before but perhaps it is related to the issue I have where iTunes seems to not consistently record the last played date of a song, which leads to recently played songs being repeated in smart playlists which specifically reject songs that had been played recently. It seems that iTunes has some sort of bug in it that does not allow it to consistently record variables/actions the user takes. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. This is a problem for last played not being recorded is a problem I have had for over a decade, but this "No recent searches" is a new problem I have never encountered before.
