I'm unable to uninstall CCleaner, on my iMac running macOS Sonoma.

CCcleaner was installed long ago. I now want it removed, but I am unable to uninstall it. I followed their instructions, but they do not work. I get this message. Please help.

Understandable. Try restarting your Mac in "Safe Mode": Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Starting your Mac in "Safe Mode" will prevent the CCleaner app from loading upon startup, so it should not be open. You will need to launch it manually from Applications. The uninstaller should have nothing to complain about.

While in that mode, try following the CCleaner's uninstallation instructions again. See if it acquiesces to your demands this time. If it works, restart your Mac normally, and it should be gone.

Agreed there is no reason to use Terminal. That command does exactly the same thing as dragging the app icon to the Trash... which won't work if it's running.

If you still have trouble, please write back.

After following John's suggestions and while you are still in Safe Mode you can check to see if you've removed all of the supporting files by downloading and running the shareware app Find Any File to search for any files with the application's or the developer's name in the file name.  For the CCCleaner software you'd do the following search(es):

1 - Name contains cccleaner

2 - Name contains genditital

Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop or Trash bin in the Dock for deletion.

FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.

Note:  if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode.  This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will assure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
