Can I rotate multiple external displays on my MacBook Air?

I am trying to rotate my external the orientation on my external display. I can get to rotation in the system settings for display, but I don't know how to choose the external display, it keeps rotating the one on my mac. How can I show it which one I want to rotate?

The title of your post refers to "multiple external displays", and your tag line says you are running Sonoma, which would suggest you have a MacBook Air released in 2018 or later.

Note that the M1 and M2 MacBook Airs only support one external display. The M3 MacBook Airs only support a single external display with the lid open; two with the lid closed. If you have plugged in more displays than your MacBook Air supports, that might explain not being able to choose a display in System Settings > Displays.
