remove hard drive from 13.3' Macbook Pro

For recycle, how to remove hard drive from 13.3 " macbook pro age 10 years. It won't turn on even when plugged in-haven't opened it in 5 years

Exact year is important to your issue. "Retina" MacBook Pros that startedwith 15-inch models in 2012 had a solid-state drive (SSD) for storage. The possibility of removing it depends on the model year.


Starting with Touchbar models in 2016, the storage modules were soldered to the logic board and cannot be removed except by destroying the logic board. Non-touchbar models in 2016 still used socketed SSDs that are removeable.


As the computer may not start. you have to use the serial number to find the sub-model. Enter the number into this Apple service page:


Check Your Service and Support Coverage

Sometimes that returns the model year. Example:



Apple's lookup has of late been more "zen" and short-cutting the full sub-model name. In that case you make nee dot use a third-party look-up. I use this one and have found no safety issues with it.


The serial number is onthe bottom plate in painfully small font:
