In-App Purchases - Wait, What?

Yes, they put in options to leave a tip or you can call it a donation. In the old days, this was called Donation Ware. Now they just put symbolic items that represent the amount your will donate to the developer.

WTH is going on there? I assume this is some kind of secret code but I can't figure it out and two different internet searches have not been very helpful. Are these purchase prices? Are they subscription prices? I don't get it.

Sometimes app developers get cute with what they call their in-app purchases. Usually, they are one-off purchases. The idea is that you're giving the developer enough money to buy that thing. I've also seen six pack of beer. Sometimes they call it a tip or tip jar but that's become rather loaded these days.
