iphone ios update offered me an out of date version of ios
I was offered ios 12.13.3 via iTunes but I am on 17.6.1 . Something to do with the date? Friday 13th September 2024

As Jim states, 12.13.3 is the version of iTunes and has nothing to do with the iOS for a portable device. See iTunes' Help menu, About iTunes and you will see the picture shown below:
As you will note, my iTunes states 12.13.2.3, which means that the same update that you've seen is available to me. I'm downloading it as I type this post.
