Wattage of Chargers

I spoke with a guy at Apple today who was very helpful. He pointed me here as this question has been asked a few times but it was for older model phones and I wanted to check on the new ones.

Regarding the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, is the general consensus that it doesn't matter what wattage of a charger you buy because the battery is smart enough to only bring in what it needs as to not damage the battery? After doing a bit of research, it appears this is the answer, I just wanted to confirm.

The fine print bullet point 19 on the iPhone Pro page says you get 25W worth of wireless charging with a 30W charger and it also says Apple used their 20W and 30W chargers to do the tests.

I'm thinking of buying a 45W charger off Monoprice but wanted to make sure it wouldn't damage the 16 Pro or Pro Max. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

1. Do you see any downside to Monoprice products?

No, they are generally good quality products in my experience.

2. What chargers would you recommend?

Apple branded ones, Ugreen or Belkin in my experience are high quality reliable chargers.

3. You're saying the phone is only able to receive 25W of charging. That's a for sure thing from Apple? 25W is its maximum receiving capability? If so, I would assume a 25W charger would be adequate then.

No. I'm saying fast charging will not be any faster with more than 25 watts. But yes, in general going for more wattage is pretty unnecessary as it won't make much of a difference in charging time.

4. I guess they only recommend the 30W so you can get the 25W when wireless charging?

Yes.

When you say "a good quality charger" I guess that can be relative. Monoprice has a pretty good name for being quality at decent prices from what I've been able to determine. I've had good experience with them.

Amazon has cheap no name brand chargers that are likely not any good, made in some factory in China, but at the same time, most of these are made in China anyway.

At the same time Anker is a pretty big name but has in the last several years developed a poor reputation for quality in their products.

So:

  1. Do you see any downside to Monoprice products?
  2. What chargers would you recommend?
  3. You're saying the phone is only able to receive 25W of charging. That's a for sure thing from Apple? 25W is its maximum receiving capability? If so, I would assume a 25W charger would be adequate then.
  4. I guess they only recommend the 30W so you can get the 25W when wireless charging?

Thanks so much for your help.
