phone got stolen and some of my pics didn’t back up to icloud

my phone got stolen.

i have icloud backups on and plenty of space. it seems to have backed up a few photos from the day(s) before it was stolen (in fact hours before) but many are also not there. i checked icloud already. nothing.

could they be on my eSim? could it need more time? or only the phone itself?

i just took a trip so i have a lot of fun pics that i’d really love to hold onto!

thanks if u reply!

Photos can be stored locally and backed up, or can be stored in iCloud Photos and not part of local backups.

Visit iCloud.com and log in with your Apple Account there, and check for photos. If the photos are not there, and if the photos are not saved in an iCloud backup (or within a PC or Mac backup), then the photos are gone.

iPhone stores nothing on the physical SIM, and an eSIM is an embedded firmware-based version of a SIM so there’s nothing stored there either.

A device that’s been stolen is usually offline, and can be completely removed from ypur Apple Account if the thieves saw your passcode.

You may get a call or text message from “Apple” or the “police” reporting the iPhone found and requesting proof of identity, which will be the thieves looking to get your Apple Account credentials. Do not provide your credentials.
