Address book culling strategy

I have been using address book for 25 years and need to do a deep edit to delete the deceased, unused, etc. I want to archive what I have though. Could someone suggest a strategy for having an archive address book and an active useful one? Thanks!

If you have Numbers installed on your Mac, you could select all the contacts (command + A) and drag them to a new spreadsheet in Numbers. That would create a copy of your contacts.

I recently read that a user had issues with this technique due to the large number of contacts they had. After dragging all the contacts, make sure they are all in the spreadsheet.

The transfer of the dragged contacts takes quite few minutes. You won’t see the contacts in Numbers right away.
