iPad Pro 11" 4th Gen with M2 Chip Overheating While Using GoodNotes App

Hello everyone,

I have an iPad Pro 11-inch 4th generation with the M2 chip, and I've noticed it gets quite hot when I'm taking handwritten notes on the GoodNotes app. The device becomes noticeably warm to the touch, and the battery drains much faster than usual during these sessions.

I mainly use GoodNotes for note-taking, so I haven't tested this issue extensively with other apps. Has anyone else experienced similar overheating issues with GoodNotes or any other note-taking apps on their iPad Pro? Are there any known solutions or recommendations to prevent this overheating?

Thank you!

Let’s define “overheating”. If an iPad overheats it shuts down so it can’t be used, and displays a message saying it must cool down before it can be turned on, and it will probably be unusable for an hour or so. If you are seeing this it is a hardware problem and you should contact Apple support:

Note that both of the above have options to receive a callback or chat

If you are not seeing this your device has not overheated. However, if you fast charge your iPad may get very warm. This is NOT overheating, and is normal when fast charging. It also won’t prevent you from using any app you have on your phone.

Also, some apps that use a lot of energy or that use cellular data (on cellular iPads) rather than Wi-Fi can cause the phone to run warmer. If a specific app uses a lot of energy and gets warm contact the app provider, as the problem is with their product.
