Is there newer MBP to replace 2008 mac

We need to replace our 2008 MBP running El Capitan with exact same Intel based Mac?

If you are tied to some old piece of software that will run only on El Capitan, you might need to get another old Mac.

According to MacTracker, the following machines are old enough to run El Capitan:

  • 2014 Mac minis
  • 2015 12" Retina MacBooks, MacBook Airs, MacBook Pros, and iMacs
  • 2016 12" Retina MacBooks.

If you are not tied to old software, then it is long past time to treat yourself to a new Mac. I would suggest looking at ones with M2- and M3-family chips.

Avery retired that software in 2020 and no longer provides desktop software. They migrated their entire design & print workflow to an online, account-based service.

If you want to get the last available macOS version of that software, as well as figure out what the last version of macOS compatible with it would be (which might influence your choice of which computer to buy) - you should contact Avery customer service since that no longer seems to be available online (or at least not easily).

That said, you should really be looking at how to plan for a change in your workflow to Avery's online design & print service. Clearly they have abandoned producing software and whatever you are using that isn't their online service is at risk of complete failure at any time, with zero support available.

Why? That would be a horrible idea. But if you have specialized software that won't work with anything newer, you may be able to find one on the used market. Their market value would be approximately $0. That might make them difficult to find, but worth the effort. Maybe check thift shops etc.

If your 2008 MBP has suffered some kind of hardware failure, another, equally old Mac is likely to succumb to the same fate.

Printing Avery projects from Apple Pages on your MAC

As mentioned above, you can design on Avery templates using Apple Pages online, or offline by downloading it to your MAC. Once you've got the design the way you want it, you will need to review some printer settings to make sure it comes out just right.

First, select "File and Page Setup" in the upper left corner. Then, check that your paper size is set correctly and the scale is 100%. Next, open the print dialog window by selecting "File and Print" in the upper left corner. Then, select "Show Details" followed by "Media & Quality." Change the media type to label, heavy-weight, matte photo paper, or a similar option that indicates to your printer that the sheet will be thicker than normal paper. Set the quality to "Best," then test your design on a plain piece of paper to double check it's exactly how you want it to look. If everything looks good you're ready to print. Or look for a used Mac that can run High Sierra 10.13.6...
