My MBP will not permit me to upgrade to Catalina, which Apple docs say my MBP is qualified to run.

Trying to upgrade my MBP from High Sierra (v 10.13.6) to Catalina (v 10.15.x), which Apple's support docs say is the highest / latest OS I can use on this machine. (Mac Book Pro 15 inch mid 2012). I'm running 8GB of ram, with about 500 GB open on a 750 GB internal drive.

"Software Update" does not work. The App Store says no updates or upgrades are available. I tried alternative methods suggested by Apple's tech support forums, such as direct link downloads, which started to download, then quit. I've tried using different browsers.

My system is squeaky-clean. Never had a virus or malware issue. No other problems (other than running an outdated OS). The machine is in pristine condition. Has never left the house.

My primary software now requires a minimum of Catalina to run. I can't afford a new Mac.

I'm at a dead end and could use some help, please!

Boot into Restore mode,CMD+r keys...

Look at top of screen for Utilities menu...

In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.

Run Disk First Aid on all items in the left panel, from top down.

Are you running any VPN, Anti-Virus, or Cleaning apps?

We need to see what all is running, a report from this will not display any personal info...
