Can I create a separate account for my child on iPad?

I am trying to set up an ipad so my child can access it, but I dont want him to have access to my details.

I have utilised the family sharing option but when i restart it just goes to my account.

What I need to be able to do is have 2 options, one for him and one for me to access the ipad.

I have trawled through the apple site and searched here but there doesn't seem to be an option. Searching the web it recommends an MDM solution, but reading between the lines its just another way to get me to spend money. I definitely don't want to have to buy a second ipad.

Surely in todays environment there should be an option to add a second account with its own login details.

PLEASE HELP.

iPads are single user devices, you cannot have multiple user accounts or profiles on it.

If you don't want him to access your Apple ID, then you will need to erase the iPad entirely and set it up again with his Apple account and not yours.

You can then use Family Sharing and Screen Time to Apply restrictions and limitations to the device.

Outside of Educational and Enterprise establishments, iPad and iPhone are principally intended to be a single-user device - and are not intended to shared in the same manner as you may be accustomed when using a Windows PC or Mac computer - which has multiple user profiles/accounts.

For managed environments, where multi-user usage is possible, the Deployment Guide provides appropriate guidance.

Shared iPad overview – Apple Support

For unmanaged environments, be aware that if you sign-out of iCloud and other Apple services - and allow another user to sign-in - you’ll not be able to change back for 90-days. So as to prevent account abuse, some critical Apple services will only allow one change of signed-in AppleID (on a device) in a 90-day period.

In conclusion, unless you fully understand and accept the implications, you would be well advised to reconsider any attempt to share your iPad with another user.

I find it strange that in the economic restraints we are all suffering Apple have again got us in a corner and we have to have multiple devices to make the most of keeping children safe.

This has nothing to do with the economic straits that some people are currently experiencing. iPads have always worked this way.
