How to switch Apple ID on iPhone in Family Sharing to another Apple ID also in family sharing.

How to change Apple ID in an iPhone from one child (family sharing account) to another child (also has existing family sharing account). Phone won’t let me simply sign out from the current child’s Apple ID unless I remove child from family sharing and put child back later. Not ideal as child has several devices that I will have to bring back to family sharing.

You should not need to remove the account form Family Sharing.

You probably just need to turn off restrictions in Screen Time settings to let you change the account.

Also, there's 4 places you would need to change account in.

Settings ➜ Account ➜ (scroll to the bottom) Sign Out
Settings ➜ Account ➜ Media & Purchases
Settings ➜ Apps ➜ Messages ➜ Send & Receive ➜ Apple Account
Settings ➜ Apps ➜ FaceTime ➜ Caller ID ➜ Apple Account

What about all the apps and music installed by the first account? Constant requests for password, surely.

For Apps, yes they will request the password for the Apple ID used to download them, whenever they need to update. But should ask for it at any other time.

If the music was shared over family sharing, it should not cause issues. If it was purchased with the previous account it may simply be unplayable.

apps downloaded with the earlier appleID would also stop working

No. Apps will continue to work. They'll just request the original Apple Account whenever they need to update.

Not sure what happens with Apps that were downloaded through family sharing from another member of the Family sharing group though.

With that said, yes, erasing the device and setting it up again would be the better choice, unless there's something else preventing that.
