Where did the Camera Roll go in iOS 18

I do NOT like what Apple did to the Photos in iOS 18... I can not find the Camera Roll. Closest is Recent Days, but it does not show all the pictures that were on the Camera Roll. I have to use a third party app on my PC to see the photos. I think Apple screwed up somewhere. Come on Apple, put Camera Roll back the way it used to be and the way it should be.

iPhone SE, iOS 18

I need this back ASAP. The way I use photos is completely broken now. I need a place to see all photos that are on my iphone and have not yet been transferred off my device.

The Utiful Photo Organizer app is a quite good alternative because it a) is very easy to use, b) allows you to move photos out of the camera roll to separate folders, so that the photos disappear from the camera roll (yay!), and c) lets you sync your photo folders between your iOS devices.
If you look at that app, it doesn't say, but it's only a 30 day trial and under settings, at the top it says "Unlock all access" and when you tap that, it's $39.99 per year... USELESS!

For me as a contractor who uses his phone camera a lot for work (before-after photos, site inspections, phases of customer projects etc. but also tons of screenshots with valuable information) this Utiful app is a life-saver and worth every penny! I love it and use it daily for my work! It helps me keep my work pictures perfectly organized and ready to be references anytime. But it gives me much more in fact because with it I can keep my work pictures physically separated from my family and vacation pics. So in my camera roll I actually have a timeline of all my nice photographs without any clutter at all. Well, I had it, until Apple released iOS 18 and now the Photos app messed it up!!

Thank you for the great information! What I'm really trying to figure out is how to turn off the "Library" folder. Is there a way to do that? I don't want every photo since 1996 grouped into one folder (the Library) as it has become following the recent iOS update. I'd prefer to only see the Camera Roll or Recent Photos like before. How can I disable the Library folder?

I’m sick to death of Apple, firstly, even after UNsyncing my devices from iCloud my notes are still syncing across 2 iPads and a iPhone. Secondly of my 2 iPads, iPhone 8 and 12 and work iPhone 15 only my work iPhone 15 and old backup 8 have deleted notes option even after the idiot on Apple support told me tips are to iOS 18. Still nothing do I’ve now lost 10 years of notes. This new photo thing is a total cluster and proves Apple like telling people how and what they can do with their device. NO MORE tomorrow I’m buying a Samsung and getting rid of apple off out of my life. Their tech support don’t know the difference between an iPad and a house brick

The Camera App shows all the photos in the camera roll but only in tiny little thumbnails. Would be better if the thumbnails were bigger and also available in the Photos App.

You can pinch to zoom in and out to change the thumbnail size.

If you know someone with an iPhone with iOS 17.6 or older, open their Photos app and you'll see Camera Roll right at the very top, separate from the Library and right above From My Mac

No. Its been a few iOS versions now, were its called just "Recents". Unless in a different language or locale it's referred to as Camera Roll. In Us English it has been called "Recents" for a while and has always since the days of being named "Camera Roll" included all photos in the library.

My iPhone 11 Pro, with iOS 17.6 shows "Recents" not "Camera Roll"

And this is what I've submitted via Feedback - Camera - Apple:

Prior to iOS 18, the Photos app provided a folder called "Recents" where a user could review the photos they'd taken using that phone (as well as photos saved from messages, screenshots, etc) in order to decide which to keep, which to upload to their Mac, etc. In iOS 18, the Photos app lost that functionality. The photos described above are shown mixed up with photos synced from other sources.

At https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255760698, I see that there's a clumsy workaround in the Camera app but on my iPhone the Camera app displays the text “No Photos or Videos".

I had turned on the "Use Face ID” setting in Settings > Photos as an experiment. Though I've turned it off, the Photos app still says “Face ID Required to open Photos”. Could this be causing the Camera app problem?

The overall update is amazing, however this picture, album, favorites, movie chaos is the worst move I've seen apple do in an upgrade. I literally can't even find a video that was taken last night. Everything is scrambled and is a serious pain to deal with. With hundreds of thousands spent on apple products, I've never had an issue and love the company but being a long time apple person, its rare to see such a drastic bad move on something so functional, efficient for user ability. Bring it back Apple!

Well said. Now please tell Apple via: Feedback - Photos - Apple

Open the Camera app and in the bottom left corner is a small picture beside the click button, tap on that small picture, once opened, it doesn't say Camera Roll, which would be helpful if it did, and all the Camera Roll pictures are there and if you tap the All Photos at the top, your entire library would show.

It'll take time to get used to it after all the years the Camera Roll was in Photos.
