In the middle of a video shoot, is when I find out my DJI Mic 1 no longer captures audio directly onto my iPhone 15 pro max.
PROBLEM:
I also noticed when connecting the DJI mic 1 receiver to my 15 pro max via the DJI receiver USB-C, that although it will monitor the levels coming from the transmitter’s, it will not record sound from transmitters to receiver to iPhone and will only capture video with the iPhones built-in microphones.
SOLUTION:
The only work around was to manually click the “Record” button on either transmitter to record audio directly onto the transmitter.
(Safe bet is to use the safety feature on the DJI Mic 1 where the transmitter will capture a dual track backup. One being -6db and the other a desired level. This will ensure you have a backup in case one track is too loud. If audio is too quiet, you can possibly stack both tracks to achieve adequate levels.)
Clearly this makes post production a hassle because in order to use the DJI mics audio, you will need to use a video editing or other software program to sync the transmitters manually-recorded audio to the iPhones footage.
PROCESS:
Plug the transmitter(s) into a computer and transfer the audio files to a desired editing program to realign the audio to your footage. Adobe Premiere, FinalCut and DaVinci Resolve are just a few programs that can sync your audio to footage automatically.
POSSIBLE CAUSE:
It’s far from ideal, but as of now
(Oct, 4th 2024) the DJI mic 1 seems to have outdated firmware for the iPhone models 15, 15 pro, 15 pro max and most likely the latest iPhone 16 models.
The DJI website also Recently denounced its DJI Mic 1 compatibility with the iPhone 15.
Stating that only the model’s iPhone 8, up to iPhone 14 are compatible.
From my research, it doesn’t look like they plan to update the DJI Mic firmware and they would prefer that you upgrade to the latest DJI Mic 2. Our only hope is that Apple or DJI will release either firmware or Apple, an IOS update.
Also, it MIGHT be worth trying to install older versions of the DJI firmware onto the mic or updating the iPhone to IOS 18 to remedy this issue. However, I have yet to try these myself. You can find the latest firmware versions for DJI Mic 1 on their website and going to Handhelds/DJI Mic/DJI Mic/downloads.
