iOS 18 draining my battery
Last night (17/09/24) I upgraded to iOS 18 update but this morning when I started using the phone, my battery drained out very quickly - anyone had similar issues.
any solution please ?

It’s the photos app. I’ve had things like background app refresh, dictation and location turned off for years. I have about five (non Apple) apps installed (no social media or entertainment type) and I use my iPhone 15 Pro primarily for talk and text which never accounts for more than 5% of my battery use, even on a heavy use day. I went from holding a two day charge to charging twice a day immediately after iOS 18. I noticed in Battery Heath that Photos was using 32% of my battery in the background which was alarming because I don’t use Photos in that capacity, and for the fact that I have background refresh disabled. My solution was to turn cellular data off for Photos entirely. (Settings > Apps> Photos > Cellular Data> toggle off) It’s been about a week and my battery is holding almost the same charge it did pre-update. I hope this helps!
Apple has essentially overhauled the utility app into their own version of social media, riddled with unnecessary AI and it’s working as such. Imagine it as uploading 5,000+ photos and videos to Instagram all at the same time. As long as you connect to WiFi periodically, your photo’s will continue to sync to iCloud. I don’t use the app much, but I can’t find any reason to have Photos running on cellular.
Side note: I do not connect my iPhone to WiFi on a regular basis. If you are constantly connected to WiFi, this fix likely won’t work for you as the app will continue to run in the background via WiFi and there is currently no way to disable this function (hence the issue).
My xsmax was unexpectedly installed the ios 18 and now the battery likes dead. Even with the fast charger plugged in, the battery is still 15% from morning until night without using. What's wrong with you Apple Inc? We are so tired of this trick.
Here’s the deal folks… If you want to know the truth, it is evident that Apple is exploiting its iPhone users to do one of two things. 1: Is to force the iPhone owners to upgrade their phones and 2: Is to force them to purchase new batteries. A new battery can cost a minimum of $125.00 and we already know how much a new phone will cost. I purchased a used battery with 92%, almost new. I had 2 iPhones one of which is used by a friend a when I gave it to her in June 2024 it had more than 80%. At the same time my daughter gave me her 13 Pro Max with battery @ 86%. After we both upgraded our phones to iOS 18.1.1 the battery percentages were exactly the same 74%. This is not a coincidence… the messages said that our batteries were at a point that we needed to replace them.
I am afraid to update. When I updated to ios 18.1.1 my battery started drain rapidly, within a few hours even if I am only using phone infrequently. The info for the ios 18.2 update mentions absolutely nothing about fixing the battery drain issue.

Mine says normal battery health and charge limit of 100%. My phone is an iphone 15 pro. I took it to work at 100% charge and it is at 18% now and I have not used any apps. Spent a total of 40 minutes on calls. Thats it. It all stated with ios 18.1.1 update. Fix the issue already. What good are all these new features if your phone is dead.
I think Apple owes us a recall for destroying our phones! I lost 10% battery just from writing this. Meanwhile on iOS 17 I could spend all day on my phone with out having to worry about my battery dying. Now I have to charge my phone 3 times a day
i have an apple 11 promax and right after new update wolah,after using three times it needs charging,this is why i never want to update my phone

Same problem continues. I’ve gone through every app on the phone turning off everything not needed. Messages is using 42% of the battery as that is most of what I do. I upgraded three weeks ago so it cannot be “working on upgrades”. I have a 13 and do not even have Apple AI and have turned Siri off to the extent I can. Logically if the battery lasted a day and a half with my style of usage before the update and literally the only change was the update, this is not a me issue. Given some recent developments with Apple I will stick with them but come on folks, this needs to be addressed.
I’ve tried all the suggestions and I think it’s just getting worse, took it off charge at 7am at 100%, it’s now 18:26pm and I’m on 56%. That’s 44% battery with only 30 minutes screen on time, no background activities, on a 16 pro max. That’s garbage.

I see this thread is relatively old. I have only just recently updated. Why, why, why did Apple keep rolling this out without a fix?? This is clearly not the usual post update drain. Apple this family has 5 iPhones and 2 iPads. Ready to switch horses here.
Battery life has been significantly affected on our iPad and iPhones since the update, my new iphone 16 was tested in store this week in Birmingham and requires a new battery. Had to buy another new phone as they wouldn’t replace it, so the battle begins.
Yes, doing frequent charging trips since the update. Not really happy before, not now. Its bit frustrating, its a new phone
