iOS 18 draining my battery
Last night (17/09/24) I upgraded to iOS 18 update but this morning when I started using the phone, my battery drained out very quickly - anyone had similar issues.
any solution please ?

It’s the photos app. I’ve had things like background app refresh, dictation and location turned off for years. I have about five (non Apple) apps installed (no social media or entertainment type) and I use my iPhone 15 Pro primarily for talk and text which never accounts for more than 5% of my battery use, even on a heavy use day. I went from holding a two day charge to charging twice a day immediately after iOS 18. I noticed in Battery Heath that Photos was using 32% of my battery in the background which was alarming because I don’t use Photos in that capacity, and for the fact that I have background refresh disabled. My solution was to turn cellular data off for Photos entirely. (Settings > Apps> Photos > Cellular Data> toggle off) It’s been about a week and my battery is holding almost the same charge it did pre-update. I hope this helps!
Apple has essentially overhauled the utility app into their own version of social media, riddled with unnecessary AI and it’s working as such. Imagine it as uploading 5,000+ photos and videos to Instagram all at the same time. As long as you connect to WiFi periodically, your photo’s will continue to sync to iCloud. I don’t use the app much, but I can’t find any reason to have Photos running on cellular.
Side note: I do not connect my iPhone to WiFi on a regular basis. If you are constantly connected to WiFi, this fix likely won’t work for you as the app will continue to run in the background via WiFi and there is currently no way to disable this function (hence the issue).
During read of all this comments I found one thing that I didn’t do after update. And it looks like that helps and battery drain is gone now, at least for phone.
Background: I’m using shortcut to turn off charging at 90%. Probably charge to 100 is needed after update to calibrate battery.
my solution: Charge battery to 100% and keep it that way on charger for 1h.
before: phone charger before night, till the morning 30% battery drop.
now: after night 3-6% battery drop.

wait for apple to fix the issue with an update even i am facing the same issue and a bit of heating issue also!
I erased the phone (15 pro max) and started over. Nowhere near as warm when charging. Two hours since last charge, at 99%. I'll keep watching it but so far, so good. The four hour mark will be the next test as it was dropping to 76%. I deleted a TON of apps and turned off a lot of background processes. Granted, this should not have to be done and hope Apple finds a solution vs us trying to get janky with it.
Force restart iPhone
If iPhone isn’t responding, and you can’t turn it off then on, try forcing it to restart.
Battery drainage issue is resolved after updating to latest iOS 18.0.1 (22A3370).
Hello~ You needed your battery replaced when it hit 80%. I hope you are backing up your iPhone on a regular basis. The update plus a very seriously degraded battery can and will cause serious issues at some point. No battery lasts forever. Get it changed or get a new iPhone…

Yall can still downgrade to iOS 17.6 beta as it still signed, I had the same issue on my iPhone 13 mini. Just look on google.
I’d update and then give it a few days. This update has a lot of Apple AI features that if you enable, will consume some daily battery capacity. It generally takes 3 to 5 days after an update for things to return to normal.
Did you do a forced restart? That’s helped many users. If you share a screenshot of battery usage by app we can see if it’s an app or two causing the excess battery usage. Here’s mine,

I contacted Apple support as I'm having the same issue with iOS 18 update with my iPhone 15 Pro Max (which has a brand new Apple certified battery with 3 cycle count). I was told that Apple knows about the issue, is working on it and will fix it in the coming iOS 18 (18.0.1 or 18.1….) update.
My ipad9 was holding 10 days without charging (I use it mainly to read and watch tv in bed) .. after update to iPads18 I had to charge it every 2 days. It was loosing 40% of charge during the night, with cover (!)
I have the solution: I reverted back to iPadOS 17.7 and now everything is back to normal.
I wish that apple would spend more time on quality of products and software instead of delivering something every year without all functions being implemented and core operations of the OS totally faulty. This is not ok apple. This is not the first time too.
