Music won't play or import audio CD

I've loaded a CD into an external drive. I can see the drive and the songs in the Finder, but Music won't play them. I also immediately get "error -54" when I try to import the songs. I'm on a MacBook Pro, OS Sonoma 14.6.1.

Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders > Music and make sure “Removable Volumes” is on. Reboot the Mac for good measure.

On my M3 MacBook Air (OS 14.5), this sequence of steps doesn't work. When I click Files and Folders, two options appear: Spotify and Graphic Converter 12. I do not see Music or "Removable Volumes." Thanks for taking time to try to help me.

I get the impression from your other thread that you are looking for an optical drive and don't have one yet.

Just a guess – but you might actually need to get an external optical drive, and put an audio CD into it, and try to play a song (thus triggering an error or a permissions dialog) before a Files and Folders entry for Music appears.
