Cant open new tabs in safari

I can't open new tabs in safari, the plus button is greyed out and I only have one tab open. The only way I've found to open a new tab so far is to go to a link on some other service and open it through safari which creates the new tab.

iPhone XR, iOS 18

I had that issue at one point. It seemed to resolve itself at some point, but I’d recommend opening a new tab the alternate way, which is to drag the bottom tab bar to open a new tab.

While not the most convenient, it should be a good workaround for now.
