How to Fix Apps Not Working on Cellular Data After iOS 18 Update?

I am facing the same issue -- updated foolishly to the iOS18 beta on iPhone XS (while abroad) and could not connect to the cellular network at all! miserable a nd stressed me out since i am not home!

I am still working with Apple tech and sent them all of the details they requested but i think i have a temp fix.

IOs18 is messing up connectivity with 5G so when you switch manually to 4G network - it connects fine and everything works --c alls, texts, data without wifi.

How do you switch to 4G manually?

Go to settings -- general> select your cell sim line > turn it on >network selection -- turn off the automatic selection toggle and manually select whichever 4G option is available in your area.

make sure your data roaming is also on along with your cellular data option pointing to the right active line,

Also, what I did last two days (not sure at this point all that was needed! ) but maybe:

1. I erased my phone completely AFTER making an iCloud backup of everything.

2. Restored the IOS using my mac -- does not take too long with wifi

3. Set up my iphone as new -- this is imp if you want to avoid downloading any software glitches that may have been previously.

4. backed up my data using my Icloud -- this took a long time for me given the photos/texts/emails etc.

got a reponse 'I don't have VPN'

neither did i! (i did NOT have VPN on)

but go to

General->VPN&Device Management

and see if somehow someway VPN was turned ON

and if so

TURN IT OFF

and voila

all my apps no longer say 'no internet'!

I can confirm that 18.1 fixed the problem for me as well (at least the problem that was described originally where you toggling cellular data on and off for individual apps did not "stick" and therefore apps were stuck in whatever cellular data state they were in before upgrading to 18. This thread has become bananas with people describing a dozen different problems)! :-)

I tried everything suggested and nothing worked. Ended up calling Apple support and it turned out it was my VPN that hung all my apps up. I disabled it, then re-started and everything now works fine.

It works for me when I turned off ‘ use carrier settings ‘

To do that go to cellular then cellular data network and turn off Carrier settings it will ask you erase carrier settings and hit erase and after that it will off and you can go back and turn on cellular data it will automatically work! It work for me

Resolved. I turned off WiFi on my 13pro and shutdown the phone. After waiting about 5 minutes, I turned my phone on. All apps are working via cellular connection now. I have not turned WiFi back on yet, but will do later.

Hey all, this method worked for me, but I didn't have to do the four steps at the bottom, just set the network from 5G to LTE and everything worked again. Thanks pana25, I'm happy to have my phone back!👍

for me it was a vpn issue. You need to go to the actual vpn app and turn it on and off again.

Here is what I did so i can use it (til a fix comes out).

First of all, I got a message on my phone that said that IOS 18.2 would fix the issue ....but i couldn't install it.

So, I went in and turned OFF my vpn (i use vpn for work...but many people do not...so it's not a biggie for them). On your main Settings screen, make sure VPN is "not connected."

Then, you can install the 18.2 update.

Once the update was installed, I was able to turn on my VPN again and use it for work. It worked for about a week and then I got a message saying i had no cell service again. So, I turned off VPN (and I turn it on only when i need it to login to work or i need to check work email, and it is working).

My hope is that an update will come out so we can have our VPN on...without these issues.

I just had that problem today. I tried everything Google said, and it didn’t work. So, I took my SIM card out, turned my phone off for like 15 minutes, turned it back on, and put my SIM back in. Boom! Everything works just fine now. Hopefully this may help some of you!

Restart your phone to get that issue resolved. That did the trick for me.

I been trine to figure this out for past 4 days and not even apple support could help me. Thank you for posting this seems to be working to far.After many reset attempts and hard reboots cellular option came back on and I move all to 4g or 4lite and so far it’s been working. Why did apple release update ios18 if issue with cellular are active poor service

All Done - fix for app crashing and lack of network --- I went to iPhone storage and off loaded What's appp and re installed --- now all apps launch - thank god - good luck all this really worked for me thank good ness as my flight takes off in 6 hours and I needed access to to Wallet for boarding pass
