How to fix Retouch Tool malfunction in Photos App on Mac running Sequoia?

Macbook 2019 Sequoia 15.0 Just updated to Sequoia, and now the retouch tool is not working properly in the photos app. I used it many times just last night without issue. Now it lightens the patch or puts a blurred picture where I retouched. Example - taking out the lights on the wall in the background, now it has a pic of a sneaker. (top left). help!

I'm finding that Retouch in Sequoia is doing what I (and you) expect.

Safe mode may cause weird things to happen while in safe mode, but sometimes it clears up some things that you can see get fixed when your back to normal.

Have you tried creating a new empty Library, importing some pictures like the one above, and seeing if that works? You can create a new Library by closing Photos and then option-clicking on the Photos icon. If you are using iCloud with Photos, just don't make this new Library your System Library.

Let us know what you find…

Tried safe mode one more time, photos app opened, click on picture, it crashed. Tried again, same. Went back to normal start up, created the library per your suggestion. Retouch tool did not work properly. Deleted that library, restarted computer and back to photos, and then the tool mostly worked. It would leave little dots that I would have to retouch individually. Then, working on another part of this photo, the sneaker popped in again. It is very frustrating, since I use this tool often, and had no issues before. (sneaker popped up in middle right, next to the pole)
