Sequoia Problem: Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse via KVM not working M1 Mac Mini

Here's my setup:

M1 Mac Mini

TESmart Dual Monitor KVM

Logitech Keyboard: Ergo K860, Logitech Mouse: M525

-- Both connected using Logitech Receiver in the KVM

I have been using this setup for years, with the Logitech USB receiver plugged into the keyboard/mouse port of the KVM switch. Works great switching between my MacBook Pro and my M1 Mac Mini.

Yesterday, I installed Sequoia on my Mini, and now when I switch back to the M1, the keyboard/mouse are unrecognized and I cannot access the Mini.

A couple of times a forced hard reboot of the Mini (via the power switch) will get the Mini to see the keyboard/mouse, but not all the time. I'm stuck having to shutdown the Mini, detach a USB device to free up a direct port, then move the Logitech Receiver directly into the Mini, and THEN it will see the keyboard.

Bug in Sequoia?

Mac mini, macOS 15.0

Update: TESmart provided me the original firmware (HKS0403A1U(USB20)_KM_SOFMU16-V009_BOOT_APP.bin) and an updated firmware (HKS0403A1U(USB20)_KM_SOFMU16-V011B-APP.bin) file. The newer firmware resolved my issue, the old firmware threw an error message ("unable to parse file") when trying to run it. Also worth noting, TESmart states that only a Windows 10 or 11 machine will run their upgrade tool (.exe) that references the above firmware file. This is incorrect, I successfully used a Windows 7 desktop to fix this issue (a VM won't work though, has to be a physical machine. I tired both and they later verified it has to be a physical machine).

I have the TESmart 3 monitor / 4 machine switch (HKS0403A1U - has USB2.0 (not 3.0)) and same problem now post Sequoia 15.1 install. I contacted TESmart and received the same firmware upgrade. However, the firmware update tool (exe) requires a Windows machine to run. I am running Parallels on my MAC Studio and run a Windows 11 VM. Unfortunately, this update tool doesn't work on VMs. TESmart is aware of this issue and verified it has to be a real Windows machine. I'm going to track that down and see it if works next.

The Tessmart fix worked for me. They sent me the firmware update tool and I followed the procedure. Not that it requires opening the unit and shorting out the chip with a precision tweezer. I used this: Amazon.com: kaverme 3PCS Precision Tweezers Set, Upgraded Anti-Static Stainless Steel of Tweezers, for Electronics, Soldering, Laboratory Work, Jewelry-Making, Model, Craft : Tools & Home Improvement

You have to reach out to TESmart technical support. They have a firmware binary but they have to give it you. It's not available for public download without their assistance. Makes sense, because if someone puts the wrong firmware on the wrong device it will break the device.

At the bottom of the page is their phone number in China. You could call if you had to.

Confirmed @james brickley post worked for me.

I had just upgraded to 15.1 sequoia and this issue happend to me. Before upgrading my set up was 2 MacBook Pros on Sonoma.

Then I reached out to TESmart team, and they gave me a hex file, and a .exe tool to update the kvm. They gave steps on the email, and a video demo. It was pretty easy to follow, and I was able to get it working again.

Attached is the link to download the TESmart software tool. However, for the hex file, you will need to reach out to them.

Similar issue where wired keyboard through TESmart KVM did not work on Mac Studio (M1 Max) side after upgrading from Sonoma to Sequoia. (Other side of KVM is an HP laptop and that worked fine.) I reverted to Sonoma from Sequoia on the Mac Studio via a Sonoma boot disk installer (with some bumps along the way). Mac Studio side works fine now on KVM, but running Sonoma, not Sequoia. Great solution for me until the issue is fixed in Sequoia.

I'm having the same issue on my MBA M3. Logitech Pop Keys and Pebble Keys keyboards are not connecting no matter what I do and I managed to connect my mouse after minutes of trying. Before this MacBook I had MBA early 2020 i5 model and both of the keyboards and the mouse connected with no issues whatsoever. I updated that old MacBook too, it's on Sequoia now. I tried to connect my keyboards to this old one and they wouldn't connect. It was when I realized the issue was Sequoia and not my MBA M3. We are used to MacBooks being incompatible with some apps etc. but not the keyboards and mouses too now... I really hope that Apple does not leave this issue unsolved. I enjoyed using my keyboards and it's upsetting that I'm no longer to use accessories that I loved.

I have the same problem. I can get keyboard and mouse to work on the mac mini if I plug them into a usb hub then plug it into the usb 2.0 port on the kvm, but they only work on the HP PC if they are plugged into the dedicated ports. I have the firmware upgrade from tesmart but I am a bit nervous about installing it especially since I have a work around. However, I would like to solve the problem. Am I better off waiting to see if Apple solves the problem or install the kvm firmware? Thoughts?

UPDATE: I contacted TESmart Support and they sent me the files needed. However, their tool is an .exe that only works on Windows. My setup is two Macs. Boooo.

I had to get a VM up and running on my MacBook Pro (note what this adds to the expense of this Sequoia-introduced bug), but the TESmart tool still doesn't see the KVM to apply the firmware update. Now I'm waiting for TESmart Support to give me additional guidance on how to get my setup working again.

In the meantime, my home office setup (I work from home) is in disarray, KVM is sitting unplugged and disassembled for the hardware fix, and I am impatiently hoping for a solution from either Apple or TESmart ASAP.

Same problem here with a MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro 2021 and Sabrent USB C KVM Switch with dual HDMI outputs.

It was working well before the last update, but now when I switch from a Windows laptop to Mac it doesn't recognize the mouse or keyboard. I have it in clamshell mode and I need to open it an close it again to be able to work on it. I'm thinking on going back to the previous Mac OS version, this is pretty annoying.
