17.6.1 TouchID & Passcode missing from Settings

I have an iPad Air 2 running iPadOS 17.6.1

The TouchID button is broken so I have to unlock it with a passcode. (When rebooting, a message appears saying "TouchID could not be enabled" - I click OK and everything works as normal.) I want to change the passcode, but I can't find the option in Settings. It should be in TouchID & Passcode, right between Apple Pencil and Battery. But it's not there at all.

I was able to set the passcode, but that was when the iPad was new and I was setting it up for the first time. How can I change the passcode if the option isn't in Settings?

I don’t think you have an iPad Air 2. That model cannot be upgraded past iPadOS 15. Btw it requires a passcode after a restart.

Anyways, here is where to look for it on an iPad running iPadOS 17.

if you really do have an iPad Air 2 , it’s in between Siri & Search and Battery.

Hmmm, was it there before or you only noticed it was missing when you went to look for it? Can you find it by using the search bar at the top? Try closing the settings App and restarting your iPad to see if it fixes it

Ah, you're correct, it's an Air 3.

However, as I said, the option is simply not there in Settings. I have two of these (they're my kids' devices). They're identical except the other one's TouchID works, and the option IS present in settings. (I compared to make sure I was looking in the right place.)
